Reflection 3 - "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding

I did not know which book I should read and I got a few suggestions from the librarian. She told me that the book ” Lord of the Flies by William Golding ” was a very popular book and that most students had red it at some point while studying. I do not recall reading it and I was curious and that is why I chose this book.

Lord of the Flies is set on an island in the South Pacific. And you get to follow a group of boys that are after an airplanecrash alone at a deserted island without any adults. You get to see how people change when they can live freely without any adults, laws or rules. Instead of working together they divide themselves in two teams with two leaders that are very different. The main leader of the group is trying to lead the group in a democratic way and wants to help everyone, Meanwhile the other leader that is in charge of food is questioning everything and is playing on the others fears.

Now I understand why most students had read this book while studying. The book clearly shows how today's society looks like and that bullying and group divisions in schools is becoming more aggressive. The boys have the opportunity to behave exactly how they want and with no adult who can stop them. Some behave very wild, which one can predict given that they are able to do just whatever they want. While other behave very quiet and civilized. Why is it like that? Does it depend on how you have been brought up or is it something that you have in you and cannot control? What would happen in today's society in the schools if adults were not there to keep an eye on everyone?

The first five years of the iPhone Obsession

With myself as the starting point, I agree that people feel they can not do without their iPhone nowadays. iPhone has so many features that you don't need  other technologies such as a camera, calculator, music player, etc. I personally think it is a great product because it has it all, and I couldn't manage without my iPhone. But since for example Facebook is easily accessible on iPhone, you get quite obsessed with it and it often leads to that you do not socialize as much face to face.

The main drawback with iPhone according to myself is that children at an early age begin to use them, which will lead to that instead of spending time outside playing they play games on the iPhone. The conclusion is that it is a good product but we need to socialize more than to communicate by iPhone.
